Each Thursday, the Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance distributes The Peavey, a member’s only newsletter. It includes local and national literary news, event listings, MWPA announcements, and a whole lot more.

MWPA members are free to send in their news, and anyone is welcome to send in a Maine-based literary event listing or call for submission—see below for more information.

Event & News Submission Guidelines

We love to help publicize your Maine-based literary events and news. Please help us achieve this by following the few simple guidelines below when submitting your events and news.

  • EVENTS Please send your event listing pre-formatted* to match the format of the example listing below. Due to the volume of events we receive, we request event listings please be as concise as possible and include a link so interested readers can find more information. Please mirror the format here:

THURSDAY, MAY 25 at 7 PM Jim Krosschell will read from his new essay collection One Man’s Maine at the Jesup Library in Bar Harbor(*Please paste a link to your event here)

  • NEWS MWPA members may send NEWS blurbs of 25- to 100-words, and be sure to include a link that leads to more information.Member news may include any recent publications of your work, any fellowships or scholarships you’ve won, any reviews of your work or articles you’ve been quoted in, etc.

  • NEW BOOK RELEASE The Peavey does not include postings of new book releases. Rather, the MWPA sends out a monthly e-newsletter called Ex Libris Maine, which exclusively profiles recently released books by MWPA members. The newsletter is sent to a large group of recipients, including our entire MWPA membership and numerous literary organizations, bookstores, libraries, and media outlets. Inclusion in Ex Libris Maine is free for individual members submitting their own books.

  • CALLS FOR SUBMISSION If you have a Maine-based call for submissions you would like us to list, please follow the basic format of the sample below and email it to  peavey@mainewriters.org, and we'll either include it in an upcoming Peavey or on our Calls for Submissions page. Please limit your announcement to 100 words at most. Here is the sample:

Schedule + Note

SCHEDULE The Peavey is published every Thursday morning. NEWS and EVENT listings must be submitted by the end of Tuesday to be considered. EVENTS are listed roughly two or three weeks in advance and will run in consecutive issues of the Peavey in the weeks proceeding the event—for example, a Peavey sent on the 7th of the month would include events from the 7th to the 14th, and the 14th to the 21st.

NOTE The Peavey is not able to include listings for fee-based writing workshops hosted by other organizations (unless the MWPA is a partner or collaborator); events such as plays with “suggested donations” will be considered.

If you have any questions, please contact The Peavey manager at peavey[at]mainewriters.org.
