The Maine Writers & Publishers Alliance is a mission-driven nonprofit organization. Sounds impressive, right? But what does it really mean?
It means that our members, donors, and supporting organizations each contribute a relatively small amount—of their money, time, ideas, or creative products—and then we all derive benefits that greatly exceed our individual investments. The MWPA’s base membership fee is $45 a year—or about the cost of a meal at a modestly priced restaurant. In exchange for this fee, our members do not expect precisely $45 in goods and services; they expect a wide range of discounts and opportunities and resources and connections and community-building contributions that, if they were ever summed up and quantified, would be valued in the thousands of dollars. The returns they expect are exponential. That’s how it works.
The MWPA is not in the business of generating profits. Whatever revenues we bring in are reinvested in our mission. But a nonprofit is still a business—we operate like a business, we have bills that need to be paid every month, and we need to generate sufficient funding or nothing happens. Consequently, we need your contributions. Your donation will support and grow the only statewide organization in Maine working to enrich the literary life and culture of our state, while also promoting our writers, editors, publishers, booksellers, and literary professionals. And the more you can contribute, the more we can get done. That’s how it works.

How to Donate
The MWPA accepts donations to support our (1) statewide programming and (2) Office of the Maine Poet Laureate. Please select which program you would like to support when you make your donation. Also, let us know if we can use your name in fundraising materials and donors lists, or if you would prefer to give anonymously. All donations are tax deductible.
There are three easy ways to donate:
→ Download our donation form, fill it out, and mail it to our office with a personal check or credit-card information. By mailing in your donation, you ensure that 100% of your contribution goes to the MWPA.

Matching Donation Programs
Does your employer have a matching donation program? Many organizations and companies now offer matching gift programs for charitable contributions made by employees, retirees, and spouses.
