Submissions for the 2021 Maine Chapbook Series are open to nonfiction manuscripts from September 1, 2021 through October 31, 2021. Melissa Febos will serve as the final judge. Please see the submission guidelines for more information.
Submissions are being accepted through September 30, 2021 for the the Ashley Bryan Fellowships, which support emerging Maine writers who are Black, people of color, and/or members of one of the Wabanaki Nations or other Native peoples. Nominations are also open through September 17 (though nominations are not necessary to apply). These fellowships provide a five-year Find Maine Writers membership, free workshops, and other benefits. Please see the application page for full eligibility and submission guidelines.
Submissions are being accepted through September 17, 2021 for the Dibner Fellowship and the Christina Baker Kline Scholarships. Dibners provide for free attendance at either the Harvest Writers Retreat OR a five or ten-week fall workshop. The Baker Kline Scholarships provide a free MWPA membership plus two free or two-session workshops.
The Dibner is open to Maine residents (1) who have not published a full-length book and (2) who are 18 years of age or older at the time of the application. The Baker Kline Scholarships are open to all Maine residents.

The 2020 Maine Chapbook Series contest is open for submissions from September 1 through October 31, 2020. Award-winning writer Sigrid Nunez will judge the contest and pick a winning chapbook of fiction to be published in 2021. The Maine Chapbook Series is open to all current Maine residents (including part-time, seasonal residents who own a second home in the state).
Only those who have not published a full-length collection in this year’s genre may enter. This does not include self-published collections.
MWPA members may enter for $15 and nonmembers for $25 per submitted manuscript. More than one submission is allowed per person but each must include an entry fee.
All entrants will receive a copy of the winning book.
Fiction manuscripts should be 10,00-25,000 words in length (front matter not included).
This scholarship supports one female writer who is 18+ to attend the SLICE Literary Writers’ Conference in Brooklyn, New York each September.
Each year, the SLICE Conference’s panels and workshops cover topics from the craft of writing (plotting, dialogue, characterization, poetry, and more) to the business of writing (pitch letters, landing a book deal, and beyond). Top editors, agents, and authors discuss crucial steps to help launch a writer’s career.
