Holden Caulfield had no patience for phonies and neither do young readers.

In this workshop, attendees will peel back the rosy layers of nostalgia and explore how to write authentically for children and teens. Through readings, film clips, and writing exercises, attendees will gain a better understanding of voice as it relates to children and teens. Excerpts will come from a range of classic texts such as A Separate PeaceTo Kill a Mockingbird, and, yes, The Catcher in the Rye as well as more modern voices including Ibi Zoboi, Anne Ursu, and more.

This instructive and generative workshop is intended for writers who want to develop their skills at tuning in to the way young people honestly view the world. Come prepared to write and share your work.
