Writing with the Tide: Exploring Calm & Chaos

  • Wolfe's Neck State Park 426 Wolfe's Neck Road Freeport, ME, 04032 United States (map)

A 1-Day All-Genre Workshop

Saturday, August 16, 10 AM - 4 PM

The ocean can symbolize vastness, depth, the unknown, freedom, and the subconscious mind. Its predictable tides represent the cyclical nature of life, while its unpredictable power reminds us of the duality of calm and chaos.

Join Lewis Robinson, author and creative writing professor, and Sarah Holman, writer and Registered Maine Guide, for an immersive outdoor workshop. We’ll spend the day in Wolfe’s Neck State Park exploring the coastline and its rocks, beaches, forest trails, and ocean views.

Participants will be given writing prompts centered around the ocean and what it represents in their lives. We will delve into experiences of calm and chaos and work to convey the deeper meaning of those moments. At the end of the day, we will share our work and offer each other constructive feedback.

Timeline:
We’ll meet at the park picnic shelter at 10am to discuss goals and objectives for the day. Morning and afternoon sessions of walking, observing nature, and writing will follow, with a midday lunch break. We will end the day with a group feedback session.

Please bring:
Wolfe’s Neck gate fee (Maine resident: $4, non-resident: $6, senior resident: Free, senior non-resident: $2)
Packed lunch, snacks, and water
