Writing the Spark: Tips and Tricks for Romance on the Page

  • Glickman Family Library Portland, Maine (map)

An IN-PERSON Romance Writing Workshop

ALL LEVELS

Most stories have at least a little romance, and some have a lot! Whether you’re writing a romance novel or adding a romantic subplot, this workshop will help you create nuanced and engaging characters, utilize romantic troupes, and build realistic relationships.

We will discuss the importance of genre and how to effectively match, or subvert, reader expectations. This workshop will cover the role of character development in a romance, the elements of a romantic plot, the role of intimacy, and how to craft a sense of continuously escalating tension that grabs your reader and doesn’t let go.

+ PLEASE NOTE This workshop will occur in person at USM’s Portland Campus. The week of the workshop, participants will receive exact location and directions.
