A 10 Week Hybrid Novel Writing Workshop
Thursdays, March 14-May 16
ALL LEVELS
Contrary to the musty trope that one must spend two hours to an entire day staring at the page (while maids and butlers deliver your lunch and tea) this class will observe why some of the best novels have been written in fifteen minute increments. Using E.M, Forster’s timeless classic, Aspects of the Novel, as our guide, we will spend 10 classes looking at beginnings, middles, and endings to novels. We will investigate how to write little by little until you have a draft. This is the class for the busy person who dreams big, who spends the day ferrying children, making dinner, cleaning cat boxes, working a job. And the novel inside them is, to use Alice Elliott Dark’s idea, “the 4th thing” that is hard to get to. Practical advice and solutions for how to get the job done.
+ PLEASE NOTE This workshop will occur both ONLINE via Zoom and IN-Person. Students do not need to create an account to participate, but should test out Zoom before their class if they are first-time users. The week of the workshop, students will be emailed a link that they may click to enter the class and the location if they are attending in-person.
+ REQUIRED EQUIPMENT A reliable, fast internet connection (broadband wired or wireless (3G or 4G/LTE), speakers & a microphone (built-in or USB plug-in), and a webcam (built-in or USB plug-in).
