Spring Cleaning for Fiction & Creative Nonfiction: 7 Tips to Spruce up Your Stories

  • USM & Online Portland (map)

A Hybrid Prose Workshop

ALL LEVELS

In this 5-hour intensive workshop, author Nick Fuller Googins will share some of the most helpful craft and industry lessons he's picked up during his 10-year writing career. The workshop will involve close readings of mentor texts, generative writing exercises, and discussion, focusing both on craft as well as the path to publication. Participants may bring works-in-progress, story ideas, or simply a blank notebook and a willingness to try new strategies. The workshop is designed for writers of flash-fiction, short stories, novels, and creative/narrative nonfiction.

+ PLEASE NOTE This workshop will occur both ONLINE via Zoom and IN-PERSON. Students do not need to create an account to participate but should test out Zoom before their class if they are first-time users. The week of the workshop students will be emailed a Zoom link and the location of the class if they plan to attend in-person.

Nick Fuller Googins is the author of the novel, The Great Transition. His short fiction and essays have appeared in The Paris Review, Men’s Health, The Sun, The Los Angeles Times, and elsewhere. He lives in Maine, and works as an elementary school teacher. He is a proud member of the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance, as well as the National Education Association, the largest labor union in the country.
