A HYBRID Business of Writing Workshop

ALL LEVELS

It’s easier than ever to release and distribute your own work without a publishing company, but the idea of self publishing can feel overwhelming. How do writers begin this process? How do they connect with industry professionals and other writers, let alone readers, without an agent or a publisher?

In this workshop, participants will learn from two successful independent authors about the differences between traditional publishing and self publishing. They will identify some of the benefits and potential pitfalls of publishing independently and discover how to apply strengths from their own life experience to the new adventure of self publishing. Discussion topics will include publishing platforms, building relationships with self publishing professionals, developing an author marketing platform, obtaining reviews, and finding readers.

Attendees will complete in-class exercises to identify their genre and their audience. In-class feedback will be offered from the class and the instructors. This workshop is open to participants at all stages of their writing career.

+ PLEASE NOTE This workshop will occur IN-PERSON and over Zoom. The week of the workshop, attendees will be emailed the exact location of the class and a Zoom link.

Briana Bizier is the author of over a dozen fantasy and paranormal romance novels under two pen names. Her novel Flame and Blade was a semi-finalist in the 2021 Self-Published Fantasy Blog Off, and readers have downloaded over 100,000 copies of her titles since she started publishing in 2016. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Colby College and an M.A. from the University of Chicago, and she has over a decade of teaching experience. Briana lives in Raymond, Maine with her husband, two children, and assorted cats and dogs.

Ella Blake is a USA Today Bestselling author of over forty sci-fi romances. She graduated from Parsons School of Design, and, after following a few interesting subplots, began her self publishing career in 2017. She lives with her family and her spoiled pets in the woods of northern New England.
