Revision as Re-visioning the Work

A 2-Week Online Fiction Workshop

Saturdays, June 7 & 14, 10 AM - 1 PM

You’ve reached the end of a draft—hooray!—but it’s not quite what you’d hoped. How do you begin to revise, so that the words on the page come closer to the vision in your mind? Revision is a process of discovery that can open up new possibilities while honing in on the emotional heart of the work. In this class, we will discuss strategies for how to re-vision—re-see—the work and identify areas for closer examination. We will use generative prompts to deconstruct and reconstruct the work, focusing on creating new material to rebuild the old. The work you generate in class will point you towards a finished draft that develops your story’s core truth.

All students will come to the class having already completed a story, ideally one that you feel stuck on. Meeting over the course of two days, this class will be a deep dive into the challenges and possibilities of your story draft while also offering tools to rethink the revision process beyond the current manuscript. As this class requires coming in with a drafted story, it is best suited to intermediate writers with some previous workshop experience.

$120 Members/$175 Nonmembers
