A 1-Day Writing Workshop
Tuesday, April 29, 4:30-7:30 PM
In this lecture and generative writing workshop, Holly Haworth will break down one of her own essays, "Woman in the Woods,"* using it to explore the possibilities of the reported essay form, a blend of personal anecdote and reportage. Haworth will offer a brainstorming session, writing exercise, and group discussion to push you toward the conception of an essay of your own. Space will be held at the end for questions and reflection.
*"Woman in the Woods" was published in The Bitter Southerner's All Women Issue (Fall 2024) and was chosen as a Top 5 Longreads of the Week and by The Bitter Southerner as a Best Story of 2024. Participants should read the essay here before attending the workshop.
$90 Members/$135 Nonmembers
Holly Haworth's essays appear at The New York Times Magazine, Oxford American, Orion, Literary Hub, Lapham's Quarterly, Creative Nonfiction, Nautilus, Terrain.org, Sierra, In These Times, The Utne Reader, and at the On Being radio program blog. They have been listed as notable in The Best American Travel Writing and included in The Best American Science and Nature Writing. Her forthcoming book This Resounding World: A Field Guide to Listening (Bloomsbury) received a Robert B. Silvers Foundation grant for Works in Progress.
