Maine Crime Wave Cancellation

The Maine Crime Wave planning committee decided last night to cancel the 2020 Maine Crime Wave. MWPA’s first priority is to do our part to keep Maine’s literary community safe, and, as you may have heard, the the U.S. Centers for Disease Control is now recommending an 8 to 20-week timeframe for avoiding large group/in-person instruction once there is evidence of community transmission of COVID-19, which is the current situation in Portland.

We were all excited about the lineup for the 2020 Maine Crime Wave and the chance to bring folks together to talk, learn, and inspire, so it’s disappointing to have to cancel. That said, we look forward to assembling Maine’s crime writing community again in 2021 and to an even better Maine Crime Wave.

Two additional notes:

+ If you were already registered for the 2020 Maine Crime Wave, you will receive a full refund. We will be in touch about that in the coming week.

+Please stay tuned for more details about a free online crime writing program in mid-June. This won’t replace the Crime Wave, but it will help bring the crime writing community together during this time of social distancing.

Thank you for your understanding.

Take care,

Gibson Fay-LeBlanc, Executive Director
