Telling stories is as old as language itself and draws from a source deep within. Too often, however, mental barriers disconnect us from the true heart of our stories. Participants in this one-day workshop will explore moving past the logical, critical mind to purposefully tap the power of the unconscious, the most primal realm of the imagination.
The fiction writing workshop provides a framework for understanding the unconscious in the creative process. This will serve as a foundation for participants to explore a series of techniques in writing exercises that enable freer access to the unconscious, fueling more fluid creativity.
Frank O Smith’s novel, Dream Singer, was a finalist for the Bellwether Prize, established by Barbara Kingsolver “in support of a literature for social change.” And was named a Notable Book of the Year in Literary Fiction in 2014 by Shelf Unbound, an international book review magazine. He is a novelist, journalist, ghostwriter, and writing coach.
