Writers face a variety of obstacles as they work, such as writer’s block, self-doubt, and lack of inspiration. This one-day seminar is a practical exploration of the creative process—a road map for overcoming these obstacles and developing ideas into finished works.

The day will begin with a lecture on the creative process, which will address methods for creating work, writing, re-writing, and publishing. The instructor will introduce and investigate a host of archetypal characters that challenge writers in both positive and negative ways as they work, such as the Devil’s Advocate, the Champion, and the Demons.

Attendees will complete and share several short writing assignments, as well as examining the strengths and limitations of their own creative powers. The instructor will then lead a discussion of issues specific to a writer’s career, including finding time to write, developing ideas, producing forms to fit particular ideas, and finding an audience.

Attendees will leave with a list of steps and strategies they can apply to their projects to move through the creative process and ready their work for publication.

+ PLEASE BRING A one-page synopsis of a project you are having problems with, which will be read and discussed in class.
